Cape Elizabeth’s 25th anniversary of the TD Beach to Beacon 10k race is happening this year.

Last year’s race had runners from nine countries, 42 states, 260 Maine cities and towns, and over 800 volunteers. However, Cape Elizabeth is expecting an even greater turnout for this year’s race and the town couldn’t be any more excited.

The race starts on Route 77, close to the Crescent Beach State Park entrance, and has its finish line at the most photographed lighthouse in the world, the historical Portland Head Light, in Fort Williams Park.

The TD Beach to Beacon 10k is managed by DMSE Sports of Woburn, Massachusetts, which also assists the Boston Athletic Association with the high-profile Boston Marathon event.

The race started in 1998 with 2,408 racers at the finish line. In 2021, there was more than 2,000 runners and 2022 there was over 5,000 runners. A total of $90,000 is awarded to first place finishers in various categories for men and women.

TD Bank gives a $30,000 donation to a certain beneficiary each year. TD Bank is proud to help in supporting the Beach to Beacon 10k because of its commitment to The Ready Commitment.

TD’s Ready Commitment is a global initiative that empowers today’s fast-paced and ever-changing climate to be equal, inclusive, and committed to everyone’s personal goals and wellbeing, so that future generations can thrive.

Cape Elizabeth’s town manager, Matthew Sturgis, spoke to WGAN on Wednesday about the significance of the race and the positive impact it has had on the town’s community.  He told us the town is always excited this time of year because of the race, especially right now, because of it being the silver anniversary.

Sturgis told us: “It’s a great big homecoming every year in August” and how it is a “a great community builder” bringing together families and people from all over Cape Elizabeth who either run, volunteer, or cheer on the sidelines. Additionally, Sturgis told us the runners are promoting “good health, wellness, and fitness.”

Sturgis told us how it brings people from all over the seacoast and the U.S.

He encourages people to come out and volunteer!

The posting of the mile markers that took place on July 19th began the countdown for a race that brings people from all across the United States and the world to the beloved state of Maine.

The TD Beach to Beacon 10k will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in Fort Williams, Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Sign up if you want to take part in this event or come on out to cheer on the runners and to show support.

For additional information about the race, go to www.beach2beacon.org or visit the TD Beach to Beacon 10k on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Town Manager Matthew Sturgis encourages everyone to check out their website.
