BANGOR, Maine (AP)   The manslaughter case of a man charged in the death of a 6-month-old boy is underway in Maine.

Prosecutors in the bench trial say they will convince a judge that Jessee Mackin, of Millinocket, caused injuries that killed Larry Lord Jr., his girlfriend’s son. The trial got started Tuesday in Bangor.

Mackin was living with her in Millinocket at the time of the baby’s death. The boy’s father, Anthony Lord, is serving two life sentences for a shooting rampage in 2015, the same year the baby died. Lord blamed his actions on the loss of his son.

Mackin is currently free on bail. His attorney has said evidence will show Mackin had nothing to do with the death of the baby.
