Company fined for collapse of canopy at Maine hotel that killed Florida man

A construction company is facing a fine related to the deadly collapse of part of a Bar Harbor hotel in February.

64-year-old Mark King of Florida was working on renovations at the Bar Harbor Regency Hotel when an overhang collapsed and killed him.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined New Hampshire-based Courtcon Inc. $46,340 for four citations.

The citations claim the company didn’t properly train its employees for safe demolition and that the canopy had not been adequately inspected before demolition began.

The company declined requests for comment on Tuesday.
