The city of South Portland says a ruptured sewer pipe caused some sewage to end up in the Fore River and Casco Bay.

The city said the pipe in the Main Street Pump Station ruptured around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Service to the pump station was expected to be fully restored by the end of the day on Monday.

The city says the pipe is about 50 years old, and they plan to replace it entirely within the next year.
