PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Organizations that provide community healthcare in southern and coastal Maine will receive a boost from the federal government.

Maine’s U.S. senators said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $400,000 to the four groups. The money will go to Portland Community Health Center, Maine Mobile Health Program, York County Community Action Corporation and Islands Community Medical Services.

Sens. Angus King, an independent, and Susan Collins, a Republican, said the money is arriving at a critical time to organizations that are stressed by the coronavirus pandemic. They said “at this critical moment when vulnerable populations are at increased risk, we welcome this funding to support health centers in Cumberland, Kennebec, York, and Knox Counties as they work to serve Maine people.”
