Gov. Janet Mills’ fundraising advantage over republican challenger Paul LePage continues to grow.
The Mills administration says she raised more than $990,000 over the last two months, raising her total to $4.8 million.
That figure is more than twice the amount raised by LePage, who received $442,000 over the past two months to bring his total to more than $2.2 million.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Mills and LePage have a similar amount of cash on hand with the campaigns hauling in about $1.4 million and $1.3 million respectively.
The Mills campaign says the contributions reflect broad support for her reelection.
The LePage campaign points out that he was also outspent in 2010 and 2014, when he won his first and second term in the Blaine House.
Meanwhile, independent Sam Hunkler is sticking with his pledge to finance his own campaign.
Hunkler has contributed more than $3,800, including $2,200 during the most recent reporting period.
As of Sept. 20, Hunkler had a little under $550 on-hand.
