Gov. Janet Mills has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff statewide Sunday in honor of the three-year anniversary of the Lewiston mass shootings.

All United States and State of Maine flags will be lowered from sunrise until sunset.

A total of 18 people were killed, and many others were injured in the mass shootings at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille in Lewiston.

“On Sunday we remember and honor the eighteen people who were taken from us on Maine’s darkest day. We keep in our hearts the loved ones they left behind, and we offer our deepest gratitude for the heroes and first responders who saved countless lives,” Governor Mills said in a statement.

The Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor, opened an exhibit earlier this month with objects connected to the tragedy.

The Press Herald reports a cornhole tournament was held over the weekend at Just-in-Time Recreation to mark the anniversary of the tragedy.
