About a third of the staff at the Maine State Library were laid off Wednesday amid uncertainty about federal funding.

The library laid off 13 people and announced it would close for two weeks to restructure its operations.

The move came after the Trump administration suspended funding through the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

In a statement, State Librarian Lori Fisher said there have been no updates as to when or whether or not funding will resume.
