The Maine CDC has identified the state’s first pediatric case of monkeypox.

Health officials said Friday the infected person is under the age of 18, but are not providing any other information to protect patient privacy.

The Maine CDC is working to identify close contacts and making vaccinations available to those individuals.

Monkeypox cases in children are rare, but have been reported in California and Florida.

The U.S. FDA granted emergency use authorization for the Jynneos vaccine to be used for people under the age of 18.

As of August 11, there were 10,768 cases of monkeypox nationwide, according to the U.S. CDC’s tracker.
