AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine’s attorney general is joining a large group of states in a lawsuit against generic drug manufacturers that claims a conspiracy to inflate and manipulate prices.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey is signing on to the 44-state coalition led by Connecticut Attorney General William Tong. The lawsuit accuses Teva Pharmaceuticals and 19 of the biggest generic drugmakers in the country with reducing competition and restraining trade relating to more than 100 drugs.

Frey says Maine is joining the lawsuit to hold generic drug manufacturers accountable for what he called “outrageous behavior.” Teva has denied any criminal behavior or civil liability.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. It seeks damages and court action to restore competition in the market for generic drugs.
