Maine is among a dozen states joining a lawsuit claiming new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are illegal and have wreaked havoc on the American economy.

The suit filed on Wednesday in the U.S. Court of International Trade challenges Trump’s justification of using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs.

States joining the suit are seeking to ask the court to declare the tariffs illegal, and to block government agencies from enforcing them.

A White House spokesperson responded to a suit last week filed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying the administration remains committed to addressing an international emergency that’s decimating America’s industries.
