Man charged in Biddeford killing a year ago makes court appearance

A Saco man charged with murder made a court appearance on Tuesday.

25-year-old Lorenze Labonte is accused of killing 27-year-old Ahmed Sharif in Biddeford last November.

In January, Labonte pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Records show Labonte has a lengthy criminal history, which includes dozens of domestic violence charges.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Labonte’s lawyer claims the Maine State Prison is violating his client’s rights by severely limiting his ability to make phone calls.

A spokesperson for the Maine Department of Corrections declined to comment on the matter, saying information about individual residents is confidential under state law.

Labonte is scheduled to go on trial in June.
