Penobscot County Sheriff's Office

A Pennsylvania woman whose three-year-old daughter died after being left in a vehicle in Milford over the weekend says she stepped out of the car to retrieve trash then fell into a river.

Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies were called in by a local business and found the girl dead inside the vehicle on Saturday

The state medical examiner said elevated body temperature was the most likely cause of death.

A family dog was also found dead inside.

The child’s mother, 40-year-old Kelly Brown of Havertown, Pennsylvania, has been charged with manslaughter.

She did not enter a plea during her initial court appearance on Monday.
