Portland Downtown needs help naming its street sweeper

Street Sweeper/Portland Downtown

Portland Downtown is holding a contest to help pick out a name for its street sweeper.

The contest launched in May at Portland Downtown’s Worker Appreciation Day event.

Portland Downtown Executive Dir. Cary Tyson said, “We hoped this lighthearted contest would shine a spotlight on the important work of Portland Downtown’s Public Works crew, who use such tools and equipment daily to keep our district shipshape.”

Over 100 submissions were received, and officials narrowed the list down to five, including “Meryl Sweep,” “The Green Monstah,” “Sweep Caroline,” “Orlando Broom” and “Sweepy Todd.”

Starting July 17th and going through July 24th, community members can vote for the street sweeper’s name via Google Forms.

“We’re excited to let the voting begin and finally get this green machine a name,” Tyson said.

The winning submission will be made into a nameplate for the street sweeper, and the winning submitter(s) will receive a $50 gift card to the downtown business of their choice.
