Record turnout at annual Miles for Mills race supports veteran families

BRUNSWICK (WGME) – The annual Miles for Mills 5k and 10k in Brunswick marked a record-breaking year on Sunday, attracting over 1,500 participants.

The event’s purpose is to fundraise for the Travis Mills Foundation, which supports soldiers and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, who served our country, suffered a tragic accident in Afghanistan in 2012 when he placed his backpack on an explosive device.

As a result of the explosion, he lost both arms and legs and has since become a recalibrated veteran.

Mills aims to serve as a beacon of hope for others with similar experiences.

“Your support allows us to bring families from across our great nation and show them that life goes on, regardless of what has happened to them,” Mills expressed.

Last year, the Travis Mills Foundation succeeded in raising $150,000, and they are hopeful to achieve the same this year.
