Sanford Police Arrest Stabbing Suspect, Credit Public Tips

Jonathan Gillis - Sanford Police

A 23-year-old Sanford man faces charges for stabbing another man last month after police says they were tipped off to his location.

Officers say Jonathan Gillis stabbed a man April 9 on Bodwell Street, with the victim suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they were tipped off at about 7:30 pm Wednesday that Gillis was at an apartment on Breary Avenue in Sanford.

Officers say they surrounded the residence and were able to get Gillis to come out of the residence on his own, where he was taken into custody without incident.

He was booked at the Sanford Police Station and later transported to the York County Jail.

Bail has been set at $50,000, as determined by the judge who signed the warrant affidavit.

Sanford Police thanked the Maine Drug Enforcement and the Sanford community for support and efforts to find Gillis.

“This outcome is a reminder that when we stand together, we are stronger and safer as a community,” said a statement from Sanford Police.
