SACO, Maine (WGAN) A 22-year-old is being treated at a local hospital after the vehicle he was driving was struck by a tractor trailer Tuesday morning.

State Police say Abdirahman Mohamed of Portland was involved in a crash at around 5am on the Maine Turnpike at the exit 36 southbound ramp in Saco, hitting a guardrail and coming to rest in the roadway before getting struck by the tractor trailer.

The impact of the second crash wedged the car underneath the cab of the tractor trailer, pinning the driver inside. Equipment was brought in to lift the truck off of the car and free the driver.

The truck driver, 46-year-old Mark Pierce of Standish, was not injured. Police say he was driving a truck owned by Hutchins Trucking of South Portland hauling a loaded Hannaford Supermarket trailer.

The exit ramp was closed for about three and a half hours.

Mohamed is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
