An Ellsworth man accused of shooting at police during a confrontation is on trial this week.

According to the Bangor Daily News, 69-year-old Jeffrey Paine faces multiple charges including attempted murder after police say he fired shots at officers when they tried to arrest him on a warrant in December of 2023.

No officers were hit, but Paine was shot in the upper arm by Officer Josh Steward, who the Attorney General’s Office says was justified in using deadly force.

Paine’s trial is expected to take place Thursday and Friday.
