BANGOR, Maine (AP)   A woman charged with sending a threatening letter to the home of Maine U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is facing a detention hearing.

Suzanne Muscara, of Burlington, was arrested last week and was scheduled to appear in federal court in Bangor on Tuesday. Authorities say she mailed starch to the Republican senator, along with a threatening note alleging the substance was anthrax. It wasn’t.

It was intercepted at a mail sorting facility. Court documents say Muscara told authorities she thought the threat wouldn’t be taken seriously.

The mailing came after Collins cast a key vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and shortly after she received another threatening letter at home addressed to her husband.

Her lawyer didn’t return a call seeking comment.
