The York County Emergency Management Agency has announced a new mobile alert system available for five southern Maine beaches.

The emergency alerts will notify people for severe weather, missing children, and surf advisories.

The five beaches are Kennebunk, Ogunquit, Old Orchard Beach, Wells and York.

According to the Press Herald, the new system is an upgrade from the one used in the past because officials can send a text directly to a person’s phone, informing them of danger in real time.

If you want to sign up for the alerts at all five beaches, text the corresponding keyword to 226787:

Kennebunk: KBK

Old Orchard Beach: OOB

Ogunquit: OGT

Wells: WELLS

York: YORKME
