A home in Windham has heavy damage from a fire early Sunday morning.

Firefighters say they arrived to find the house on Kaitlyn Court with heavy fire coming from the roof.

They say they put the fire out quickly, with five people and two dogs able to escape, although one cat died in the fire.

Firefighters say one person from the home was taken to a local hospital with an unrelated medical injury.

Investigators say the fire started in an air-conditioning unit and an electrical outlet supplying power to the unit. They say the fire was caused by an electrical failure involving a wall outlet. It’s been classified as accidental.

The fire was reported just before 3:30 am Sunday.
