Maine Turnpike Backed Up by Vehicle Fire During Heavy Weekend Traffic

Traffic is back to normal on the Maine Turnpike (I-95) after a vehicle fire backed up northbound traffic between Wells and Kennebunk late Sunday morning.

The Maine Turnpike Authority reported the right lane was blocked due to the vehicle fire at 11:56 am.

Traffic was reportedly backed up for three miles at one point. The Turnpike Authority reported all three northbound lanes were back open at 1:30 pm.

There’s been no word on the cause of the vehicle fire or if there were any injuries.
